SAM JIROUŠ - 07/14/2020

In the last days, you might have come across cyclists dressed in ROUVY jerseys on the road. As the cycling season is slowly starting after the pandemic in ROUVY’s country of origin - the Czech Republic, we would like to introduce you to the ROUVY Specialized Cycling Team - the youngest MTB cyclists in the ROUVY family.

As a company, we focus on giving back to the local community and developing young cycling talents. That is also one of the reasons why we have decided to support the local team - ROUVY Specialized Cycling Team.

Would you like to learn more about the team? Carry on reading!

The ROUVY Specialized Cycling Team is based in Vimperk, in the southern region of the Czech Republic, in the same town as ROUVY headquarters are located. It is not a coincidence - both founders of ROUVY, Jiří and Petr Samek, studied here. They also spent a lot of time racing and training in this team.

Since the time of Peter and Jiří’s racing careers, the goal of the team has remained the same - to support young athletes in pursuing their cycling careers.

The team does not only train and guide young talents in the junior and elite categories, but also, introduces children at a very young age to cycling as a fun activity. This is an even more important aspect of the sport - to build a community where children support and encourage each other.

The team has produced many names that were able to make their mark in the cycling world. For example:  Kateřina Nash, a World Cup MTB winner, Tereza Huříkova, the Junior World Champion, or Tereza Sásková, the Junior World Vice-Champion.

For the current racing season, the team has planned to take part in the national championship, and, also, in the World Cup Series. Unfortunately, as many other events got cancelled or postponed this year, the season for the team has just started with the most prestigious event on its calendar - the Czech National Championship.

And to be honest, it was a very good start of the season for the team!

First, the championship title in the Team Relay, which got decided in a very tight battle at the end of the race.

In individual racing, the first medal was won by Jan Sáska, who tactically stayed in 3rd place most of the race, keeping a safe distance to the first position. Two laps before the finish, he attacked and managed to close the gap, and gained victory in the junior category.

Tereza Sásková was racing in the U23 woman category. After a good start, she took second place in the category.

The last race of the weekend’s schedule showed a battle between the Elite and the U23 category. Ondřej Cink took his second National Championship victory in a row.

The U23 category was dominated by our ROUVY Specialized Cycling Team. Samuel Jirouš became the Czech U23 Champion, followed by his teammate Jaromir Skála - what a performance!

In total, 3 Czech Championship titles and 2 medals. That is a solid score for one racing weekend, and gives a great outlook for the rest of the season for the ROUVY Specialized Team.

We are extremely happy about this cooperation and its impact on the sport’s community, not only in our region, but also, across the borders. In the indoor cycling season, we are planning more engagement with the team. You can look forward to the group rides, but also, common races where you can compare your results to the best Czech junior riders.

Stay tuned - more from the team is coming soon!
