YURIY RYASHKO - 30.09.2020

Great news for runners and triathletes who welcome to add indoor running into their training regimen. Now, they can enjoy indoor reality also in running mode. ‘Augmented Running’ is now available for anyone for free as a beta feature.

The new season brings fantastic news for lovers of virtual reality training. From October 1, 2020 ROUVY divides in 2 sections: cycling and running. We are excited to bring new updates to the ROUVY AR platform and its technology. Running is now available on all ROUVY AR applications: Windows, Mac, iOS, Apple TV and Android.

[Updated start-up screen]

Starting October 1st,

- Run-only users will have the opportunity to use ROUVY completely for free (including expired trials) as long as they keep logging run-only activities (once “cycling” is selected, they will be prompted to subscribe)

- All paying users will have RUNNING feature included in their subscription and will be able to use both ‘cycle’ and ‘run’ options without any limitations and/or any additional charge.

To get a hold of the new feature you will need a running treadmill and some sensors.

For the first use the user has to select the preferred profile (cycling or running). This is how the running start screen looks after choosing the discipline.

Metrics shown in real-time while running:
  • heart rate
  • pace
  • cadence (equals to strides-per-minute)
  • distance gained

Activity statistics and detail based on running metrics:
  • SMP - strides per minute
  • Average Pace
  • Heart Rate Zones

*RUNNING POWER (reporting from the footpod) or VIRTUAL RUNNING POWER values are not available at the moment.

ON the course:

runners see the runners only in the terrain (no mixing with the cyclists)

Route selection

The list of categories and routes is based on the choice of the preferred discipline profile.

Special ‘running category’ will be highlighted in the running profile.

Routes can be

  • running only
  • cycling only
  • both running & cycling

To get you started we launch a couple of running courses. There is much more to come and over time our ambition is to build a run course library on par with our cycling offering. For the moment, runners can run in Spain and UK locations.

BETA limitations

  • Running results will not be displayed on the leaderboards.
  • Users are not able to create or view an online running race

Never minding the limitations It is now possible to run in the augmented mode. So, enjoy and have a great run!

Hi, the inclination profile on routes will be used with smart trendmills in the future to adjust their inclination according ?
    • yuriy888 - 04.11.2020
      Hi, of course!
    • eric.larochelle.921 - 02.11.2020
Yes, this is what we want! I currently have a one year free registration with iFit, which control the smart treadmill according to planned speed, incline or course incline. It is nice but I would prefer in the future to use and pay only for Rouvy.

Stay tuned. This is on the running product roadmap and an to be worked on. Cheers.

Hi, is the Garmin Dual heart rate sensor compatible or do i still need a foot pod. Thanks
    • yuriy888 - 04.11.2020
The heart rate monitor should be compatible, but for the running feature, you better have a foot pod.

Tried Beta Running AR app & really like it. Sensor connects & work flawlessly. Great work! My feedback:
    1. Upload routes at popular distances: 5K, 10K, half marathon and full. These would be ideal for time trial / online races in future.
    2. Upload routes from famous marathons to attract more pure runners - Honolulu, Boston, NY, London, Tokyo, Sydney. You could arrange marketing with the race directors to advertise on Rouvy these marathons. Win win.
    3. Agree with briggly75 -- encourage runners to upload their running routes. Japanese runners are big on filming their races. There are many Go Pro vids of the Tokyo Marathon online, for example. Why not do an article on this blog that explains how you film videos for running / cycling routes? That might encourage those of us who want to do it, but are not sure the right way to go about it.
    4. See if you can connect with those 'fun run' organizations. I'm thinking of the beer marathons, the wine marathons (France & Canada). Those fun runs could be advertised on Rouvy. You get marketing $$ and the race directors get larger audiences who are likely to sign up to join the real event. And we get to run virtually in the off season with BYOB.
Aside: Where I live, we have snow already, so any training outside is a no-go. The AR app and videos on Rouvy help keep us motivated and mentally well. During COVID, it's impossible to travel, but watching the videos from different countries inspires my training. Many thanks.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas. They are to be processed by the product team. Keep training! More routes to come soon.

Adding info: Using Zwift run pod. Garmin Forerunner 735XT. Connected sensors via Bluetooth & ANT. Works flawlessly & connects quickly. I find Rouvy / run pod to be more accurate than my Garmin regarding distance & pace.

Thank you for the report. Great to hear!
