ROUVY COMMUNITY CHANGING THE LIVES OF OTHERS WITH SARIS AND WORLD BICYCLE RELIEF

ELIŠKA HARANTOVÁ - 07.07.2020

The ability to turn our passion for cycling into an opportunity to help others who need it most is a privilege, and watching the ROUVY community come together to help individuals in developing countries conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive in the Ride for World Bicycle Relief challenge was extremely rewarding..

With Saris and World Bicycle Relief, the ROUVY community took part in the Ride for World Bicycle Relief Challenge in order to change the lives of people in developing countries. For every participant who completed the challenge, Saris donated $1 to World Bicycle Relief to provide bicycles for healthcare workers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Millions of people walk for miles every day just to survive. On foot, individuals race against the sun to complete everyday tasks. Distance is a barrier to attending school, receiving healthcare, and delivering goods to market.

World Bicycle Relief’s mission is to help people by enhancing their mobility, by providing them with a bicycle that would help them to conquer long distances, broadening their possibilities.

A great example of how World Bicycle Relief is changing lives is the story of Tamara, a 12-year-old orphan living with her grandmother. Tamara spends over 2 hours every day on foot on her way to school. With a bicycle, she can conquer this distance in a much shorter time period enabling her to focus on studying and other activities.

As the idea of a charity challenge spread around the cycling peloton, a total of 1 610 ROUVY riders have completed the challenge which resulted in a total contribution of $1,610 to World Bicycle Relief.

“It has been incredible to see how many people are turning to bikes during this time – as a mode of transportation, for mental and physical well-being, as a way for families to get outside together, and virtually to find a way to connect with others.” WBR Director of Partnerships, Claire Geiger, said.

“Seeing people come together on ROUVY as a community and take on the challenge of distance to support those that face it on a daily basis is incredibly inspiring. The Power of Bicycles has the ability to change the world.”

Thank you all for being a part of this and helping provide a brighter future for so many.!
