ROUVY RELEASES ONLINE RACES ON AUGMENTED ROUTES, MAKING VIRTUAL RACE EVENTS A FEW-CLICKS ACTION

YURIY RYASHKO - 18.12.2018

Following up on the initial Group Rides public beta release, based on augmented reality, Rouvy is releasing updated Online Races - the functionality to run official and individual virtual-race events.

Rouvy’s unique platform allows users to ride and compete in real-life video and race routes “from within” in the direct meaning of the word. “We are continually unfolding the required functionality to bring our vision to life - to make indoor cycling and virtual racing possible on any road of the planet by mixing real-life video routes with augmented reality,” says Petr Samek, one of Rouvy’s founders and CEO.

“Now, any Rouvy user can set up an individual or multi-rider Online Race with a few clicks. Cyclists and
triathletes are able to turn their training routine into a fun competition. Every video route on Rouvy is
geo-located, which means a GPS realistic resistance syncs the trainer just as on a bike course outdoors.”

Rouvy ensures a precise simulation of course cycling indoors by using advanced algorithms to smooth,
sync and process both video and elevation profiles. Augmented 3D overlays on top of the video-footage
provide users with enhanced levels of interactivity, fun and competition.

Samek adds, “The best preparation for a race is the ability to ride it multiple times in advance. With our
2,500 video routes, there is no better place to find what you need to train over the winter or the whole
year cycle. Scheduled official races and new race routes are to follow in the next year. The new AR just
makes the existing features absolutely complete.“

Rouvy’s Augmented Reality is in the public beta with online races available for all on https://rouvy.com

I have now managed to find the online races list on the Rouvy app but the Rouvy website still only shows races scheduled for 21-03-19 onwards. The results page still shows wrong average speeds and when watching the live races on the website the live speeds are still showing very low eg. 3mph on 0% gradient or 5mph on -8% gradient. I have tried explaining this to Rouvy support team but still not sorted.

it is being worked on and the fix will be released in the closest updates. Thanks for keeping up with it.

Still not sorted, even after sending screenshots to support@rouvy.com .....twice!!

Now because someone has created 24 online races between 21-03-19 to 26-03-19 the page will not scroll
down far enough to see the current days online races, today 07-03-19 the only online races I can see on
the list are from 21-03-19 onwards!!

Don't worry, the support is forwarding to where it is taken care of, but things need time to get tested and published. Keep the heads up! Cheers.

    Is anyone reading this??
Thank you for your reply and for your comment Antler, it seems that Rouvy have fixed the time issue but have not yet sorted the speed issue yet, hopefully they will be sorting that soon as the race results list show average speeds like 70 or 80mph etc.
    Thanks again

fordie01: We can't reproduce that. So, once you see this issue again, please send a screenshot to support@rouvy.com. Thank you.

Please can you explain why when watching an online race (not taking part in) all the speeds of the riders are wrong and the time taken so far is wrong? I have tried watching quite a few online races that have started and the speeds are showing very low like 5.8mph on a -0.54% gradient and the time after 7 miles is showing as 1192:06:06. Before the updates the times and the speeds were showing correctly.

Thanks for the feedback but I am not sure what you are talking about. Does not look to be reproducible since we don't have a "view mode" in apps whatsoever. Please contact support@rouvy.com for clarification.
      • antlers - 09.01.2019
The view mode is on the web site, and the times are wrong as described.
        • yuriy888 - 11.01.2019
Ok, thanks for reporting, submitted for the check.

I have done two races on AR routes now and they are great fun-- especially when their are other riders that are closely matched on abilities suited for that course.

I wonder if Rouvy could calculate something like a seed time for a race, based either on a previous ride for the course or a combination of FTP, weight, and elevation profile, and display that on the race signup screen. Then you can see at a glance if there are people with similar expected performance in the race.

Thanks for the feedback, submitted for consideration.
    • antlers - 18.12.2018
      PS Need more AR courses!
      • yuriy888 - 19.12.2018
Surely they will arrive. Enjoy the present ones and stay tuned!
